Altar Servers
Altar Servers assist the priest at Mass and at Special Services when
asked, such as First Communion and Confirmation. Servers select the Mass
time they want to serve and are placed on the rotation schedule for that
Mass. Servers need to be registered in the parish and they may
begin their ministry in the fourth grade and may continue through high
school. There is a 2 hour training session prior to serving and
there are also occasional review sessions.
Communion Service
The Saturday 8:45 A.M. Communion Service is currently led by our
Deacon and a group of lay people on a rotating schedule. The
leaders are already mandated Ministers of Communion who have volunteered
to lead the Word Service and distribute Communion within that prayer.
The first reading and psalm are read by another volunteer lector.
Eucharistic Ministers of Care
This ministry connects the parish family with those
who are unable to get to church due to illness. The ministers of care
are men and women of compassion and devotion. Their mission is to bring
Holy Communion to the homebound. There is a special instruction offered
to become a Eucharistic Minister of Care. This ministry meets
every two months.
Lectors
Lectors proclaim the Word of GOD to the community. The
role of the lector is to proclaim the readings from Scripture during our
Mass. During the liturgy the lector is fulfilling a mission to
fellow community members. The readings from Sacred Scripture have
been chosen such that there is a spiritual message readily apparent in
almost every reading . The reader's goal is to allow the
congregation to hear this message in the way that a lector proclaims it.
Lectors work from a provided handbook that includes the readings for the
entire liturgical year. Lectors are scheduled to proclaim the Word
on specific dates and times according to their stated preference.
Anyone who has received the sacrament of Confirmation may serve in this
ministry.
Ministers of Communion
Anyone who has a deep love and reverence of the Eucharist could
serve in this ministry of distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at
weekend parish Masses. Anyone over 18 who has been confirmed in the
Catholic faith and attends mass regularly may volunteer to serve in this
ministry. A formation and training session is required for this
ministry, and the ministers are mandated through the Archdiocese of
Chicago.
