News from Your Parish Council
The St Terrence Parish Council has been meeting for just over a year and a half, and we have accomplished some great things for our parish. The Council now invites all parishioners to consider joining us on one of our four Commissions. Each Commission is established to focus on one particular area of parish life, and that area often encompasses many ministries. The four Commissions are:
1. Parish Spiritual Life Commission - This Commission addresses all aspects of our parish worship, and all that pertains to our spiritual formation as Catholics. 2. Catholic Education Commission - This Commission addresses all aspects of education in our parish, including religious education for children, adult education, and SPRED (for persons with disabilities. 3. Human Concerns Commission - This Commission addresses all aspects of the concerns we can address regarding the basic human needs of our people, including outreach such as bereavement, food pantry, and the like. 4. Parish Life Commission - This Commission addresses all aspects of the community life we enjoy as a parish, including our parish picnic, the Men’s and Ladies groups, hospitality and any other means of building up our sense of community within the parish.
How often do the Commissions meet? The Commissions will meet four times per year, typically on the third Thursday of the month. All four Commissions meet at the same time. The meetings take place in the Fr Riordan Center, each commission using one of the sectioned rooms. The meetings begin promptly at 7:00 PM and end on or before 8:30 PM. We respect everyone’s time and do not extend the meetings beyond the scheduled times. The schedule of meetings for the current year (academic calendar) is:
Thursday, October 16, 2008: 7:00 - 8:30 PM Thursday, January 15, 2009: 7:00 - 8:30 PM Thursday, March 12, 2009: 7:00 - 8:30 PM Thursday, May 21, 2009: 7:00 - 8:30 PM
What do the Commissions do at these meetings? 1. The Commissions research the needs, the ideas and the hopes of the faith community about their particular area of parish life. 2. They encourage and support existing ministries; 3. They evaluate the quality of life of the parish faith community; 4. To plan for the parish’s future by recommending policies, procedures, and programs that will implement its values and fulfill the Church’s mission.
What do I have to do to be at the Commission meeting?
Commission meetings are open to all
parishioners of St. Terrence who attend Mass at St. Terrence regularly.
Bring your ideas and hopes to the Commission meeting and be a part of
envisioning our future
